Email: "She is Shameless"

A woman regrets listening to Sylvia Browne's advice in a phone reading.

Background

There are times when accepting Sylvia Browne's "spiritual counseling" has a far more negative impact on a person's life than just the simple loss of the $750 spent on a phone "reading."

I recently received an email detailing one such time.

The Email

Here, with the author's permission, is that email.

And, as usual, this email is simply one person's account of their experience.

Subject: My Sylvia Reading

Hello,

I am not sure if you would be interested in posting my reading with Sylvia. I also was once a big Sylvia believer and shelled out big bucks during a time of desperation. I was a stay at home mother with three children and my young husband was just excelling beyond belief at his current job. So much so that it was alarming, even questionable. He was spending money like water and yet nothing was leaving our checking account. Family members began to notice and we all were concerned that he had become involved in something illegal. When he was approached he would laugh it off coming up with plausible excuses, saying that he had received bonuses for doing such a good job. I did not buy it.

After watching Sylvia on a few of the Montel Shows I decided to bite the bullet and spend the $700 asking price of a phone reading. I was desperate. When she called I had my serious and specific questions ready for her (as instructed) and one of my first (after she was done telling me about me) was about my husband, I asked specifically if he was intermingled with illegal activity in which involved money. Her response “No honey, he is just climbing that company ladder.” I was not 100% sold but still sighed with relief. I asked her then if I would work again, being that I still thought he may be involved in something illegal I knew that the possibility of my being left alone to care for 3 little children was a big one. Again “no, honey, maybe when the kids are older”. I was appeased at that point. She went into a few more unrelated things, all of which I found to be untrue later on. Well here’s the kicker.

After a wonderful vacation about a month after the reading I am doing my house mom thing, the house is full of children (neighbor kids included) and there is a ring at the door. I go to answer and immediately am face to face with a man of authority, I knew it the moment I saw him. He asks for my husband (who conveniently decided to go fishing in the earliest of morning). I relate that information to the nicely suited gentleman and then he hands me a card that along with his name states his rank with the FBI. That’s right, not only was my husband stealing, but he was stealing from Federally regulated pension funds, to the tone of $600,000.

I was a fool, I did not listen to my own sixth sense and trusted hers. Her false sense of security caused me to not act, as I felt I should. I coveted the tape of the reading and listened to it over and over hoping that it was I that heard her wrong, but plain as day she says no when I ask about his illegal activity. Also, I did have to go back to work to support our children (another one she got wrong). I have notes from my reading as well as the tape and my dear sweet husband’s mugshot that made the front page of the [city] Newspaper! I also have a letter from her organization when they responded to my letter saying her predictions were incorrect. They wanted me to wait a few more months to allow for her predictions to transpire and then write again. And I did, only to never hear anything from them again.

I have spent many hours scouring your site after I stumbled upon it recently and I agree with many of those that have written you. She is shameless and it is a wonder that she has not been exposed publicly especially with so many of her flaws so obvious. If I can prevent anyone else from spending their hard earned money on her flat and false predictions please count me in. Let me know if there is anyway I can help.

Sincerely,

PS You can google my husband ([husband's name]) and find the story about his arrest in the [city] Paper.

Analysis

After receiving this email, I spoke with this woman by phone, and did some research into her husband's case.

He was indeed convicted of the crime she described, and admitted his guilt in court. He had little choice, since he had, as the woman said to me, "left a paper trail a mile long."

She also told me that she has mailed Browne's office "every few months" asking for a refund, and that, other than the initial response asking her to "wait a few months", she has never heard from them again.

I'll leave it to the reader to decide whether this is appropriate behavior from a supposedly "spiritual" organization.

Conclusion

Audio from this woman's phone "reading," and copies of her correspondence with Sylvia Browne Corporation will be added to this article in the coming weeks.

My thanks to this woman for sharing her story with me, and for allowing me to present it here on the web site.
